The Power of Prayer
The Power of Prayer
I host a weekly prayer line as an outreach ministry. It grew from my personal understanding of the words of Jesus "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20). We come together to praise, thank Jesus along with daily supplications. We pray the words of Psalm 91 for protection over ourselves and our loved ones and take Holy Communion together. The words of a popular Christian Worship song "I am Desperate For You" explains the prayer line’s popularity:
"I'm desperate for You, all I know to do
Is only to let go and fall at Your feet
So just as I am, with these empty hands
I give everything, all I have, all of me
I'm desperate for You
I'm desperate for You."

The pandemic wildfires, racial violence and the recent invasion of Ukraine have brought us to our knees before the living God. The experience of His great love and presence has kept us through every challenge: sickness, loss of loved ones, economic hardship and isolation.
Brother Lucas, SSJE, explains:
We will move past this because God has chosen us as his dwelling place. We can persevere, if only we remember who God most fundamentally calls us to be: ourselves, bearers of Christ in the world, not by virtue of particular accomplishments, but because of the love with which God has made us.

The vision of God's heart is that the church through intercession can walk in John 17:21:
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
I want to encourage others to host a prayer line:
“Prayer hotlines provide a way for us to feel even more comforted by having someone support us and walk us through prayer, or even pray for us so that we are able to surrender to God. You are able to feel supported and comforted by the Lord’s presence through someone else. When you don’t know what to say they will pray. They can connect you with a pastor or other sources if needed after praying.
"Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven."-Psalm 107:28-30
We are one body united in Christ Jesus and we are called to love each other because of his love for us, so the people you call will love you through this difficult time you’re in and point you back to Christ.”

As a believer, we have been called to pray. Because of John 17:21, I am always open to pray. Contact me to pray:
